AIB Staircase Removal | IBEX House London Asbestos Project
Overview
As part of the ongoing asbestos remediation programme at IBEX House, London, MD Environmental was appointed to undertake the licensed removal of Asbestos Insulation Board (AIB) from staircases throughout the building. Working across multiple floors within an occupied commercial property required meticulous planning, specialist containment systems and rigorous safety procedures.
The Challenge
Removing AIB from staircases presents unique challenges due to restricted access, multiple floor levels and the need to maintain safe routes throughout the building. Every enclosure had to be carefully designed around the building layout while ensuring asbestos fibres remained fully contained throughout the removal process.
Working alongside other contractors also required close coordination to minimise disruption while maintaining full compliance with HSE guidance.
Our Solution
Our team constructed fully controlled asbestos enclosures around each staircase, incorporating shared airlock systems, viewing panels, negative pressure units and dedicated decontamination facilities.
Continuous air monitoring, clearly defined access controls and comprehensive site safety procedures ensured every stage of the project was completed safely.
Working alongside specialist access provider Scaffolding Access, the team delivered carefully planned access solutions that allowed licensed asbestos removal works to progress efficiently across multiple floors.
The Result
The project continues to progress safely, with AIB successfully removed from staircases while maintaining strict environmental controls and protecting building occupants.
Extensive preparation before removal commenced ensured each work area operated efficiently, demonstrating the importance of planning, experienced operatives and robust containment systems on complex commercial asbestos projects
