MMMF Pipework Insulation Removal Project in Fort Halstead
The Challenge
MD Environmental was instructed to carry out the removal of approximately 2000 linear metres of Man-Made Mineral Fibre (MMMF) insulation from pipework at the Fort Halstead site.
Although MMMF is not classified as asbestos, its removal still requires controlled working procedures, appropriate personal protective equipment and careful site coordination to ensure safe handling throughout the project. The scale of pipework involved, combined with the operational environment, required a structured and well-managed approach to maintain safe working conditions across the site.
Working within a high-profile location also required professionalism, organisation and close coordination with the principal contractor to ensure works progressed smoothly and safely.
Our Solution
MD Environmental implemented a carefully planned programme of controlled MMMF removal works across the pipework network.
Key elements of the works included:
Removal of approximately 2000 linear metres of MMMF insulation from pipework
Use of appropriate PPE and RPE to maintain safe working conditions
Establishment of controlled working zones to manage access and safety
Coordination with Soilfix Limited to support programme continuity
Our team applied the same disciplined working practices used across hazardous material removal projects to ensure works were delivered safely and efficiently.
The Result
The MMMF insulation removal works were completed safely and in line with project requirements, supporting the wider programme of works at Fort Halstead.
By maintaining controlled working conditions and clear coordination with the principal contractor, MD Environmental ensured the works progressed efficiently across a complex and high-profile site environment.
Another example of how MD Environmental supports a wide range of remediation and environmental projects requiring careful planning and specialist working methods.
